About Me

64 Years old. Retired airline pilot. I have owned this 196? 18' Rayson since 1970. It has been through a couple of restorations. It currently sports a Chevy 454 with lots of polished aluminum coupled to a Velvet Drive transmission and Aeromarine Thoroughbred (original 12 degree V drive).

I wish I could sand mine out- it's clear over metalflake gel originally, and it's pretty sunburned on top now. Do you know whatever happened to Miss Kilowatt?

The KING of the Rayson Craft folks in this area was Armie Haynes of the GN circuit...Miss Kilowatt..He really helped put Rudy Ramon on the map in circle boat racing..

Dave, Thanks for your comment. I'll post some more pictures and maybe you all can help me date the boat..I just sanded all of the oxidation out of the finish and it looks like a new boat..

You have a similar setup to my LP hull- 454/Velvet Drive 72C. With the Aeromarine it's probably a pre-splitcase Casale boat, or at the latest, one that was built/rigged in the period when the split case was introduced. I think that would have been the mid Sixties...

BTW if you have been in MEM for a long period (ex-FedEx, maybe??), did you ever know Charlie Saurenman, who owned the Wesco/Mopar flattie, Pink Panther? He lived in that area. His brother & nephew are long-time friends.

No way to know the year, only that it was the 62nd boat from the G mold that year... Post some more pictures and maybe it can be narrowed down but unlikely to know the exact year.

Can anyone tell me what year my boat was produced? It has a serial number plate G 62 under the glass on the stringer on the port side.
